Greetings from Alumni: Laia Horn, Executive Assistant, Pohjola Vakuutus Oy

11 March 2025

This time in our Greetings from Alumni series, you will meet our alumna Laia Horn, who works as an executive assistant at Pohjola Vakuutus Oy. During her time at Hannes Snellman between 2019 and 2024, Laia worked as a legal assistant in our IP & Tech Team.

Hi Laia! How has the spring been so far?

Hi and thanks for asking, this spring has been both busy and a wonderful reminder of new beginnings and fresh opportunities! As the days grow longer and sunlight increases, it’s the perfect chance to tackle old and new work challenges with a positive mindset. Spring season to me always brings with it the promise of growth, both personally and professionally.

You work as an executive assistant at Pohjola Vakuutus Oy. Can you tell us about your daily work and what is included in your responsibilities?

As an executive assistant at Pohjola Vakuutus, my daily work involves a variety of tasks that ensure smooth operations and provide vital support to my executives. My key responsibilities include managing schedules and calendars, preparing for various meetings, and arranging travel plans. I see myself as the right hand to my executives, offering essential administrative support and ensuring their day-to-day activities run seamlessly. This role allows me to anticipate their needs, prioritise tasks, and address any challenges that arise, enabling them to focus on their goals and work.

What was the most valuable learning you took with you when you moved forward from Hannes Snellman?

I would say the most valuable learning I took with me was the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment taught me how to quickly adjust to new challenges and embrace change with a positive perspective and to always stay curious. I learned that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and improve, which is a mindset I still carry with me today.

What is your favourite memory from your time at Hannes Snellman?

Instead of one or two moments, the sense of community and the fun we had together make up some of my best memories. I think just about everyone mentions the summer and Christmas parties, so I’d like to add the annual Children’s Day to that list. To me, that tradition was truly something special and a great way to include children in the Hannes Snellman family.

Hannes Snellman is cooperating with Päätös, a podcast focused on decision-making. Inspired by the podcast, we would like to conclude this interview by asking you about decision-making — what would you say is the most significant decision you have made when it comes to your professional life?

The most significant decision I’ve made in my professional life was choosing to prioritise continuous learning and personal growth. It has allowed me to adapt to various roles and industries, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and guided me to seek out opportunities that challenge me and expand my skill set.
